So you’ve created your weight loss plan and you’re ready to reach your goals. You’ve bought all the equipment and healthy food you need to be successful and you’ve found some yummy-looking recipes to try.
You renewed your gym membership and even bought new work-out clothes. You have everything you need to lose weight and regain your health. You are ready to start your journey to natural health.
With the planning behind you, you’re now faced with reality – putting the plan into action.
How do you feel?
Some of you may feel excited and motivated. You’re eager to check off the first steps on your list, so you get started, excited about what lies ahead.
Others may be feeling overwhelmed. You’re scared that you’ve bitten off more than you can chew. “I hope I last a week,” you tell yourself. You may even joke with friends that you’re “at it again, but will probably be rolling off the wagon soon.”
What makes the two groups so different? One group is energized and ready to begin and the other is almost quitting before they start. How can you become one of the excited, motivated and determined?
By tapping into your memory.
Here’s what I mean…
I’m notorious for starting a new diet or 30-day challenge with strong effort & determination…at least for the first week or maybe two. But then my resolve begins to wane and I find myself falling for the slightest temptation, assuring myself that I’ll start again fresh…on Monday.
But what usually follows is a sense of guilt and feelings of despair. “I can’t be successful,” I reason. “I might as well give up.” I conclude. I feel defeated and discouraged. “Why even bother?”
But then there have been times when I’ve stuck to my plan to lose weight and was successful. Even if I had one mis-step, I didn’t give up. I started again at the next meal and I encouraged myself.
I eventually met my weight loss goal and felt healthier and happier than ever. I felt powerful, confident and motivated. At that point, I felt I could accomplish any goal.
Now, as I begin a new health journey, I know I want to be successful in regaining my health. So how can I ensure that I stay persistant until I reach my goals?
I can tap into my memory.
When tempted to go off my plan, I’ll think back to how great I felt when I persevered in the past. Or I’ll remember the sadness and discouragement I felt when I gave up.
In fact, I’ll start each day visualizing myself reaching my goal – how I will feel, how I look in clothes that fit, how much energy I have, how great my skin looks and feels, and how confident I feel.
I’ll use the power of memory to keep me motivated and focused.
And this method can work for you as well. You might even create a visual reminder, like a Pinterest board, vision book, or an inspiring bulletin board.
By tapping into your memory, you can help ensure you achieve your weight loss goals.
